Tannhäuser (1845) is a three-act opera by Richard Wagner, defined as a «Grosse romantische Oper». The profusion of dramatic ideas it contains and the inventiveness of the music make it outstanding among his youthful works. Wagner wrote a second version for Paris (1861), which was a failure, and made later alterations, but the original Dresden version is the most frequently performed.

Gran Teatre del Liceu

The Gran Teatre del Liceu opened in 1847. On January 31, 1994, the building was destroyed by fire. Now rebuilt, the Liceu is used for classic plays and other kinds of performances.
